Main ContentClinical Visit
What should we expect during a clinical visit?
When you arrive at the hospital, please register in the main lobby on Level G (ground floor) of the Kathy and Joe Sanderson Tower. A staff member will register you and your child, and you will then be directed to the appropriate elevator for the clinic.
Once in the clinic room, the routine includes:
- Your child’s heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, temperature and oxygen saturation will be measured.
- A nurse practitioner will obtain a complete medical history of your child and perform a physical examination.
- Lab work and other procedures may be conducted, including:
- Chest X-ray
- Blood work (complete blood count, blood chemistries, blood clotting times, urinalysis, type and cross-match)
- Electrocardiogram
- Echocardiogram
Will we discuss anesthesia?
After all of this is completed, you will meet with an anesthesia staff member on Sanderson Tower Level 1. The anesthesia staff member will review your child’s health history and discuss anesthesia needs with you.
Will we tour the floor and meet the care team?
We will educate you about the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit and cardiac step-down unit, and you will meet many members of our care team.
